2006 Holiday Cuisine Showcase

ImageThe 1st Annual Holiday Cuisine Showcase was held on Thursday, November 30 at the home of the Flint Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Durant-Dort Office Building. The Holiday Cuisine Showcase gives FACVB member restaurants and food service companies the opportunity to showcase their signature dishes in the Appetizer, Entree or Dessert categories.

Media coverage of the event was provided in time for booking Holiday and Super Bowl events. Last year’s judges were Ron Krueger, Food Editor of the Flint Journal, Al Blinke, President/CEO of WNEM TV 5, Sally Jaegar, Genesee Historical Society, and Renee Gatica, General Manager of Flint’s Red Roof Inn. 

Plaques were awarded based on taste: Favorite Appetizer, Favorite Entree, and Favorite Dessert, as well as for Best Presentation in each category.


1st Annual Holiday Cuisine Showcase participants were Floyd’s Restaurant, French Laundry, UpNorth Grill, Salvatore Scallopini, Something Special Events Planning, Hooters, Latina Restaurant, Edible Arrangements, Dale’s Cheesecake Shoppe, and Maxies.


The event was a culinary delight, with great entertainment provided by the Flint Mastersingers, and wonderful company!

At the 1st Annual Holiday Cuisine Showcase:

The entries for Appetizer were:
•    Floyd’s: Flat Iron Steak w/Roasted Garlic Aioli
•    Hooters of Flint: Chicken Wings
•    Maxie’s: Smoked Chicken Wings
•    Something Special: Party Potatoes


The entries for Entree were:
•    Latina Restaurant: Chicken Alfredo
•    Maxie’s: Petosky Burger
•    Salvatore Scallopini: Chicken Tosca
•    Something Special: Beef Bourginon
•    UpNorth Grill: Pulled Pork


The entries for Dessert were:
•    Dale’s Cheesecake Shoppe: Tirimisu Cheesecake
•    Edible Arrangements: Delicious Party Half Dipped
•    French Laundry: Mincemeat Pie w/Hard Sauce
•    Something Special: Carrot Cake w/Nuts
•    UpNorth Grill: Peanut Butter Cake


Floyd’s Restaurant at Woodfield, represented by Luis Fernandes and Corina Jones won for both taste and presentation for their appetizer, Flat Iron Steak with Roasted Garlic Aioli. 

Salvatore Scallopini, represented by Jacob Yambrick, won for both taste and presentation for their entree,  Chicken Tosca with Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

The French Laundry, represented by Libby Reeves, won for best tasting dessert for their Mincemeat Pie, and tied with Edible Arrangements, owner Linda Belford, for best presentation.

Sam’s Club on Corunna Road and A Tisket, A Tasket basket company also helped sponsor the event. Ms. Tammy Perkins of Sam’s Club generously sponsored all of the nonalcoholic beverages and paper goods for the event.  Michelle Spinney of A Tisket, A Tasket donated beautiful gift baskets for each of the judges.
